Every alternate person suffers from this disorder, whether in major terms or less. It has walked along with mankind since the very beginning. Also known as clinical depression, it has been described in many of the arts and literature sections since hundreds of years. Many describe the causes of depression in many ways as there actually are many reasons behind it.
Types of Depression
Just like many other diseases, depressions are also of many different types. They just take place according to different gender, age and culture along with the variations in timing, number and severity. There are commonly three types of depression-
- Major Depression
- Dysthymia
- Bipolar Disorder
Major Depression- This type of depression usually lasts for two weeks and includes tempered and sad moods. This in turn hampers the ability to do even the simple works like sleeping, eating, talking etc. Presence of other fellow beings is also less tolerated. The effects of this form of depression can take place once or twice or even many several times in a person’s life.
Dysthymia- As compared to Major depression, this type is disorder is rather long lasting but less severe. It does not make a person disable to do any work, but sure affects him or her from functioning smoothly in one’s work. At times, people with this disorder also suffer few occurrence of major depression which is termed as Double Depression.
Bipolar Disorder- This is a combination of a group of disorders often called as manic- depression or manic depressive illness. This type of depression shows a very unique pattern of disorders which involves a period of mania or hypomania. Bipolar Disorders are persistent and frequent.
Symptoms of Depression-
A person going through depression suffers from-
- Frequent mood swings like angry, irritated, sad etc.
- Feels self to be worthless and always guilty.
- Loses the feeling of pleasurable activities including sex.
- Insomnia, weight gain or just the opposite.
- Fatigue and frequent suicide attempts.
- Headaches, digestive disorder and chronic pain.

Depression can be actually prevented by attending certain programs and events related to cure this disorder. They are treated by professionals that help you in reducing stress and prevent yourself from the threats of depression to a huge extent. Apart from this, you can also take various measures such as-
- Eating healthy foods with the presence of balanced nutrients and avoiding packed and fast foods.
- Make sure you take proper rest and do not stress yourself much.
- Never hide any negative feelings inside you. Try sharing it out to your friends or family members.
