Health Risks Arising from the Condition of Obesity

Obesity is one of the most widely spread diseases in the world that seems to have engulfed every third person in its trap. The reason for this is the series of unhealthy eating habits that people, around the world, have been following for a long time. Although, putting on some extra weight is a normal human tendency but crossing over all boundaries to become obese is highly unacceptable in terms of a healthy body.

In technical terms, a person is said to be obese when his BMI or Body Mass Index reaches or crosses over the mark of 30 kg per square meter. BMI is, actually, a measurement technique under which the weight of a body is compared with the height; for a normal person the BMI should be below 25 kg per square metre. If it happens to fall in the range of 25 to 30, it is still acceptable as the person may be overweight yet healthy. However, BMI measures are not always able to successfully conclude a person’s levels of obesity, if the subject has a highly muscular and well-built physique.

Obesity is a serious medical condition and can subject your body to a number of severe diseases. Some of these diseases are mentioned as follows:

  • Diabetes. It is a metabolic disease in which the blood sugar levels in the body become very high. This happens due to low production of insulin within the body and makes it vulnerable to dysfunctions and failures.
  • Cancer. It is a deadly disease in which the cells within the body grow uncontrollably leading to the formation of tumors. This can rupture the internal body functions and can even lead to death.
  • Heart Disease. Obesity can muddle up the smooth functioning of heart causing various heart diseases. Heart is, supposedly, the basis of life and any sort of failure in it can put an end to your life.
  • Liver Disease. The liver is a vital organ necessary for survival and performs tasks like detoxification, protein synthesis and digestion. Any sort of disease in the liver can lower down the chances of your survival.

These are only a few out of the large number of diseases, obesity can lead to. Thus, it becomes a point of high importance to prevent this condition from reaching you. So, get serious about the matters of your health and start maintaining a healthy diet along with regular exercise routine to save yourself from all these diseases.
